The Wine Pill !
Wine in a pill?
A pill has been developed that has all the benefits of drinking a glass of red wine. The only ‘ingredient’ missing is alcohol! There’s even a website dedicated to selling wine pills
The fact that a pill is being developed re-enforces the benefits of drinking wine, particularly red wine. Hospitals in the UK have been prescribing patients red wine to heart attack patients. This has likely led to the development of a pill.

Wine helps to prevent damage to blood vessels, reducing bad cholesterol and preventing blood clots forming. It can reduce the risk of heart disease, certain cancers and slow the progression of neurological degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
While we think the development of a pill is an 'interesting' initiative, (particularly for alcoholic heart patients!) we think there are associated health benefits in the form of relaxation. Many of us will have a glass of wine to relax at the end of a hard day; it can be seen as a cue to switch off and relax. Furthermore, with so many stress-related diseases, taking time out to relax is probably as important as going for a run!
As Auckland’s first certified organic winery we tend to go a bit further and suggest not to drink ‘a glass of wine a day’ but ‘a glass of organic wine a day’. In traditional winemaking, grapes can be subject to up to 16 different chemicals and pesticides, making them one of the most sprayed crops. It amazes us how there is a huge worldwide demand for organic food, yet there is not the same relative demand for organic wine!
What would be your preference – a glass or a pill? How do you relax at the end of the day? Leave a comment and share your opinion!
